History and Values

Duncan Gillis

Chief Executive Officer

Duncan Gillis is the chief executive officer of BBB Industries, one of the world’s largest and fastest growing sustainable manufacturers.

Duncan is a passionate supporter of circular economy principles and business models as he has led three circular economy companies over the past twelve years. He believes that integrating the economic, social, and environmental aspects of a company, combined with a sound strategy and agile execution, creates great value for stakeholders of the enterprise.

Prior to joining BBB, Duncan was president & CEO of the John Crane Group, a subsidiary of the London traded Smiths Group plc, from 2012 through 2016. John Crane is a global provider of first-fit and aftermarket engineered products to a global customer base across major process industries.

Prior to John Crane, Duncan was president & CEO of the former Algeco Scotsman Group, the global leader in the modular space industry. Circular economy principles defined the Algeco Scotsman business model of “lease and remanufacture”. With over 330,000 re-usable buildings at its peak, the company provided needed space on demand.

Earlier in his career, Duncan developed his appreciation of circular economy models and their benefits through leading roles at United Technologies Corporation (UTC), Procter & Gamble and McKinsey & Company.

Duncan earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell University, after which he served as an Infantry Officer (Airborne Ranger) in the U.S. Army before returning for his master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Cornell.

He has served on several not-for-profit boards, including a rails-to-trails group in Cincinnati, Ohio early in his career, the US National Association of Manufacturers mid-career, and most recently on the board of the Auto Care Association.

An avid long-distance cyclist and private pilot (instrument rated), Gillis resides in Fairhope, Alabama.
